Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about setting up wholesale pricing, B2B ordering, volume discounts, net terms, and more with Wholesale Whale on Shopify.

Getting Started

Create your first discount in the "Discounts" section. Tag some customers (like "wholesale" or "vip") in Shopify admin, then set up discounts for those tags. Discounts appear automatically for tagged customers at checkout.
No. The discount function is automatically deployed during installation. Your store is ready to start offering wholesale pricing immediately.
Add the "Wholesale Discounts" app block to your product pages in the theme editor. Go to Online Store, then Themes, then Customize, navigate to a product page, click Add block, and select "Wholesale Discount Display" from the Apps tab.
Cart-level discount calculations at checkout, customer tag-based pricing logic, multi-currency support, order statistics tracking, and product metafield updates for storefront display are all set up automatically.

Discounts & Pricing

Go to "Discounts" in the app, click "Create Discount," set a customer tag (e.g., "wholesale"), choose discount type (percentage or fixed), set the value, optionally add quantity requirements or product restrictions, and save. The discount becomes active immediately.
Five types: (1) Customer Tag-Based discounts for groups like "wholesale," "vip," or "employee." (2) Quantity-Based (Volume) bulk pricing for buying X+ items. (3) Amount-Based (Minimum Spend) discounts when spending over a threshold. (4) Combined (Tag + Quantity/Amount) requiring a tag AND minimum quantity or spend. (5) Product/Collection Specific discounts targeting specific products, variants, or collections.
Yes. Percentage discounts scale with price (e.g., 25% off). Fixed amount discounts subtract a set value (e.g., $50 off). Fixed amounts convert automatically for multi-currency stores.
"Best Discount Wins" — each product gets the single discount that saves the customer the most money. No stacking. Different products in the same cart can have different winning discounts.
Checkout discounts apply immediately. Storefront price displays may take up to 10 minutes to update due to product metafield sync.
Yes. For example: "Wholesale customers get 20% off when buying 10+ items." The customer must have the tag AND meet the quantity threshold.

Customer Management

Go to Customers in Shopify admin, select the customer, add tags like "wholesale," "vip," or "bulk-buyer," and save. The customer immediately gets access to matching discounts.
Any tags you want — there are no restrictions. Popular examples: wholesale, vip, bulk, dealer, employee, distributor, premium, trade. You can also use custom tags like "family-friends," "student," "military," etc.
Yes. Customers can have multiple tags and will automatically receive whichever applicable discount saves them the most money.
Yes. Use Auto-Tagging Rules to tag customers based on purchase behavior: Order Amount Rules tag when orders exceed a dollar threshold (e.g., "Gold Member" for $1000+ orders), and Quantity Rules tag when order quantity exceeds a threshold (e.g., "Volume Buyer" for 20+ items).
It uses a "high-water mark" approach — once a customer reaches a tier, they keep it forever. A Gold Member who places a small order stays Gold. Customers can only go up, never down. Different rule types (quantity vs. amount) work independently, so a customer can have both "Volume Buyer" and "Gold Member" simultaneously.

Storefront Display

Tagged customers see personalized prices directly on product pages, including quantity break pricing tiers, savings amounts, and clear discount messaging. Discounts also apply automatically at checkout.
Go to Online Store, then Themes, then Customize, then App embeds, find "Product Discount Badges" and toggle ON. Badges automatically appear on product cards in collections, search, and homepage showing savings to customers.
In the theme editor, expand Product information, then Details, click Add block, go to Apps tab, select "Wholesale Discount Display," drag it below the price, and save.

Quick Order Form

A dedicated page where wholesale customers can build large orders fast — search by SKU or name, adjust quantities in a table view, see live pricing, and add everything to cart in one go. Available on paid plans.
Product search by name/SKU, wholesale pricing display, quantity discount tier hints, bulk import via CSV/XLSX, catalog template download, live running totals, and cart-level promotion banners.
Customers click Import, upload a CSV/XLSX file with SKU and quantity columns (or paste a SKU list), and the form matches SKUs to products and populates the order table. They can also download a pre-filled catalog template.

Wholesale Signup

One-Click Setup is recommended. For manual setup: Go to Online Store, then Pages, then Add page (e.g., "Wholesale Sign Up"), add it to your navigation menu, in Theme Customize navigate to the page, add section, then Apps, then select "Wholesale Signup Form," customize fields and save.
The form displays different messages based on application status (pending, approved, rejected). You can configure manual or auto-approval workflows.

Net Terms

Net terms let wholesale customers place orders now and pay later within an agreed timeframe. "Net 30" means 30 days to pay. Standard practice in B2B commerce.
Net 7, Net 15, Net 30, Net 60, and Net 90 days.
Customer clicks "Request Net Terms" in cart, the app creates a Shopify draft order, you approve if required, customer receives invoice via email, automatic reminders are sent before due date, and overdue notification is sent if unpaid.
Yes. Each payment term rule is tied to a specific customer tag. "Wholesale" customers can get Net 30, "distributor" customers Net 60. Each tag can have one active rule.
Professional and Advanced plans. The "Request Net Terms" button only appears for eligible customers on these plans.

Technical

Wholesale Whale uses Shopify Functions for native discount processing at checkout — real-time calculations, no impact on store speed, automatically deployed during installation.
Yes. Compatible with most themes, respects existing discount codes, works with inventory management apps, CRM tools, and custom checkout extensions.
Discounts based on customer tags work with Shopify POS when customers are identified at point of sale.
Check in order: 1) Customer has the correct tag, 2) Discount is active and configured correctly, 3) Discount applies to the specific product/collection, 4) Customer meets any quantity requirements, 5) Try refreshing or clearing browser cache.
Check the Deployment Status in the app dashboard, verify discounts are active, test with a simple discount to isolate the issue. Contact support if the function shows "Not Deployed."
Cart discounts apply immediately. Storefront display may take up to 10 minutes due to metafield sync. The discount still works at checkout during this time.

Pricing & Plans

1 active discount rule, unlimited products, storefront discount display, collection discount badges, and the wholesale signup form.
More active discount rules, quick order form, net terms / payment terms, auto-tagging rules, advanced analytics, and priority support.
Recommended hierarchy: Retail gets standard pricing (no tags). Bulk Buyers get 5-10% off for quantity purchases. Trade Customers get 15-20% off for verified businesses. Wholesale Customers get 25-35% off for resellers. VIP/Premium customers get 40%+ off for best customers.
Start simple with basic percentage discounts. Test thoroughly with sample customers. Use clear, consistent customer tags. Monitor analytics to optimize. Use auto-tagging to reduce manual work. Layer strategically — combine tags with quantity requirements for your best customers.

How-To Guides

Install Wholesale Whale from the Shopify App Store and create your first discount rule. Assign customer tags such as "wholesale" to the customers who should receive discounted pricing. The app uses Shopify Functions to apply discounts automatically at checkout, so tagged customers see reduced prices on product pages and pay the wholesale rate without any manual intervention. You can set percentage-based or fixed-amount discounts, and optionally restrict them to specific products or collections. The entire setup takes under five minutes.
Wholesale Whale uses Shopify customer tags to segment your buyers into groups such as "wholesale," "vip," "employee," or any custom label you choose. You create a discount rule for each tag, and the app automatically shows the correct price to each customer based on their tags. If a customer has multiple tags, the "Best Discount Wins" logic ensures they always get the deepest applicable discount. This approach lets you run unlimited pricing tiers from a single Shopify store without maintaining separate catalogs.
Wholesale Whale includes a built-in wholesale signup form that you can add to any page on your Shopify store. Use the One-Click Setup option in the app, or manually add the "Wholesale Signup Form" app block through your theme editor. Prospective wholesale customers fill out the form with their business details, and you can configure either manual approval or auto-approval workflows. Approved customers are automatically tagged, giving them instant access to wholesale pricing on their next visit.
Wholesale Whale transforms your existing Shopify store into a B2B ordering platform. Install the app and enable the Quick Order Form, which gives wholesale customers a dedicated page to search products by SKU, adjust quantities in a table view, and import orders via CSV or XLSX files. Combine this with net terms for deferred payment, the wholesale signup form for onboarding new accounts, and tag-based pricing for customer-specific rates. Together, these features deliver a complete B2B experience without requiring a separate storefront.
In Wholesale Whale, create a quantity-based discount rule and define your pricing tiers. For example, set 10% off for 10+ units, 15% off for 25+ units, and 20% off for 50+ units. The app displays these tiers directly on your product pages so customers can see exactly how much they save by ordering more. Volume discounts can apply store-wide or to specific products and collections, and they can be combined with customer tags for even more targeted pricing.
Enable net terms in Wholesale Whale and create a payment term rule tied to a customer tag. You can offer Net 7, Net 15, Net 30, Net 60, or Net 90 day terms. When eligible customers check out, they see a "Request Net Terms" option. The app creates a draft order, sends an invoice via email, and automatically follows up with payment reminders before the due date and overdue notifications if payment is late. Net terms are available on the Professional and Advanced plans.
Wholesale Whale eliminates the need for separate storefronts. Install the app on your existing Shopify store and use customer tags to differentiate wholesale from retail buyers. Retail customers see standard prices, while tagged wholesale customers see their discounted pricing on product pages and at checkout. You maintain a single product catalog, single inventory, and single order management system. This approach reduces operational overhead and simplifies your business.
Wholesale Whale's Auto-Tagging feature lets you create rules that automatically tag customers based on their purchase behavior. Set dollar thresholds (e.g., tag as "Gold Member" after spending $1,000) or quantity thresholds (e.g., tag as "Volume Buyer" after ordering 20+ items). The system uses a high-water mark approach, so customers only move up in tiers and never lose a tag they have earned. Auto-tagging is available on the Professional and Advanced plans.

Wholesale Whale makes VIP pricing easy with auto-tagging. Set a spending threshold, such as $500 lifetime spend, and the app will automatically tag customers who reach it as "vip." Yes. Wholesale Whale supports combined discount rules that require both a customer tag AND a minimum quantity or spend threshold. For example, you can create a rule that gives "wholesale" tagged customers 20% off when they buy 10 or more units.
